We, the undersigned residents of Pacific County, urge the Long Beach Mayor and City Council to reconsider the proposal to build a dog park in Long Beach, Washington. While we appreciate efforts to create spaces for our pets, a dog park raises significant concerns. Dog parks often increase the risk of disease spread among dogs, which is especially concerning for young, elderly, or vulnerable pets. Additionally, dog parks can lead to fights and unsafe situations due to the varying temperaments of dogs and inattentive owners. The costs and logistics of maintaining such a facility also pose a burden on the community, requiring ongoing resources for cleaning, repairs, and oversight. We believe these issues could outweigh the benefits and ask for alternative solutions that promote safe and healthy recreation for all pets and residents of Long Beach.
